HISTORY
25yrs of expertise in the trade
In the beginning ...
There was John, who established the business in 1982, specialising in fabricating air conditioning ductwork, at first for one Gold Coast company, then extended to various local companies.
As business improved, he took on an apprentice and moved to a larger premises employing more tradesmen. Eventually in 1986, he built our current factory in Habib Drive.
A succesful partnership
As the business grew, it was too hard to manage by himself, so he offered me a partnership, he didn't have to ask me twice, I always loved this area. In November 1988, my wife Jacki, our then 6 month old daughter Emily and I made the move from Sydney.
The partnership worked well as John was always hands on in the factory, looking after the workings of the factory and with my inital background starting as an apprentice sheetmetal worker, then carrying on into the drawing office for 6 years, then also starting my enginneering certificate which I completed in 1982. Then moving on into engineering department.
So with Johns workshop and site experience and my engineering back ground, it all seem to complement itself and jelled together very well.
Extending the business
In 1989 we extended the factory and doubled its original size. In the early nineties we changed our company's direction from mainly dealing with a couple of companies, to dealing with a greater range of customers, all in different fields of work. To achieve this we purchased additional specialised machinery. This has opened the doors to a larger range of customers. As you can see on our list of products we do cover a vast arrange of products.
In 2005 John retired form the business and since, with great help from my wife and fellow workers, we continue to be successful and grow.
Supporting the local community
Attard Sheetmetal have supported work experience for the local senior school students for quite a few years now. We take in either a year 10 or year 11 student that shares an interest of metal work and give them an insight to our sheet metal trade.
Obviously we cannot give the students too much, but by the end of the week they are usually capable enough to have fabricated a small toolbox, the students are quite proud of there achievement and place one of our logo stickers on it just to add the finishing touches. The student take it home as a gift from us.
Over the years we have supported kids' soccer teams, local community music awards, junior netball, Lismore go-kart club, North Coast Street Machine, MS society and various volunteer services.
